, the VERY 1st Pre Classic poster
ever
!!

photos, as they are an important part of my description. This edition of the
Pre Classic
took place on June 5, 1982 here in
Eugene, Oregon
at historic
Hayward Field
. This extremely
rare
multi-colored poster measures approximately 24" x 18", which features artwork by a local Eugene artist and is
signed by the artist
!!
The artist's name is also printed onto the poster as well (see photo #3). The artist signed and gave this poster "To the McChesneys", who were a well-known Eugene "running family"; the parents and their four sons were all accomplished distance runners (three of the sons attended and ran for the
University of Oregon Ducks
back in the 1970's). The poster features outstanding and colorful abstract art picturing
Steve Prefontaine
competing at Hayward Field, with the now-demolished West Grandstands full of adoring fans clearly visible and Spencer's Butte in the distance on the left. This 1982
Prefontaine Classic
was sponsored by
NIKE
(see photo #4), the University of Oregon and the
Oregon Track Club
. The bottom border of the poster features the notable names of athletes that competed in this '82 Pre Classic:
Mike Boit, Debbie Brill, Carl Lewis, Henry Marsh, Billy Olson, Henry Rono, Mary Decker Tabb
(then married to marathoner Ron Tabb; later became Mary Slaney after remarrying...) and
Mac Wilkins
. The poster itself is
mega-RARE...
this particular example that was also signed by the original artist and gifted to the famous McChesney Family makes it all the more special!

Condition:
the bottom border of the poster exhibits light water/moisture stains, but they are moderately light in nature so they truly don't detract much from the overall aesthetics! The poster also has some light-moderate rippling, but again, nothing major here as the poster will frame up beautifully! There are
no
tack holes or tape marks from prior display! There are
no
