    Description

This is an original antique circus ticket from the Walter L. Main Circus. The ticket reads CONCERT in the lower right corner. This likely was an admission ticket to a concert by the circus band, which would have been held in a tent on the midway. The Walter L. Main Circus was headquartered in Geneva, Ohio. It started in the 1880s, and by the 1890s it was one of the largest railroad circuses in the USA. This ticket appears to date from the early 1900s, but could be earlier. This circus was destroyed by a fire at its winter headquarters in Geneva Ohio in 1906. Although it never reached the size it had before the fire, Walter Main operated for several more years and later leased out his name and some properties to other circus operators into the 1940s. Size of the ticket is 3.75 inches by 1.75 inches.
