Turbine  Plans Ready For CNC II
Great project for a beginner. 30 year old project which has been refined over the last 2-3 years .  Any amateur could follow our instructions and produce a working jet engine. The design uses easily available components and employs building techniques that the average model engineer might have in his workshop. The design is deliberately kept conservative and the choice of materials makes the finished design more forgiving.
What you'll get is vintage plans plust the latest CAD. The CAD 65 in all, are 3 D in full color, look at the quality of the CAD. These drawings can be manipulated any vector or angle. Zoom in for closer look...
The outer can is a camping gas cylinder. This is a cheap. free! way to make a light casing. The front diffuser assembly can be made of a mixture of wood and aluminium glued with araldite epoxy glue.
The compressor is made of plywood        and when reinforced with carbon fibre, can withstand revs up  to 75,000 rpm.
Turbine wheel is made of sheet metal which was slit  around it's circumference and twisted to form blades.
Combustion chamber was made of sheet metal. Most other components  are made of aluminum and require a lathe to fabricate.
Also included are several short videos showing several stages of  the build and testing.

Build  The Tiny Giant
& Loudmouth Free Piston Jet Engines
Weighs a mere 40 Lbs (less than 20 Kgs) and  produces 200 HP
This  auction is for  a CD filled with blueprints, 33 patents, pictures, text... detailing the history and construction of free piston jet engine(s).
Most  engines have a crankshaft to deliver output. The Free Piston Engine does  not have a crankshaft and the added complexity of  rods, bearings, complicated  lubrication mechanism... The Free Piston Engine Consists of little more than  the Piston itself which oscillates inside a metal tube (cylinder) generating  high volume of heated gas which is used to propel vehicles thus a jet engine.  The Free Piston Engine is a great project for a beginner. Even if you never  built an engine before.
Building  the engine is simple as there's only two moving parts, even if you lack the necessary tools such as a lathe, there are instructions on getting one fabricated. Should you desire a smaller engine all you do is slim down the size of the cylinder and piston. Everything else remains the same. Should you require more power increase the dimensions of cylinder and piston, that simple!
The  engine is so small and easy to build it is economical to scrap a disabled  engine, replace it with a new one.
Although  the engine is not meant for automobile use, it can be installed on airplanes,  helicopters, and even boats.
Due  to its small size and high thrust, the engine can be installed where turbo  jets are not feasible. Best of all there would be no torque, making planes  highly stable and helicopters can do away with the tail rotor, thus allowing  for a lighter craft and greater mobility.
New  research into maritime applications has produced some amazing results. Propellers,  augers, impellers... all are terribly inefficient. Pure jet drives do away  with the high maintenance associated with conventional drives and are economical  to run. By placing the jet exhaust under the hull some researchers have decreased  the abrasion created by fast moving boats over water while increasing the  top speed of vessels and lowering fuel consumption.
Even  direct electrical power generators have been built using Free Piston Engines.  By fabricating the piston of partially magnetic material and wrapping the  cylinder with copper wire, tremendous amounts of energy have been generated  by very small engines. Due to the Free Piston Engine's high rate of operation  which is about 20,000-40,000 cycles per minute, high energy can be extracted  from relatively small engines. The technology has even been used to power  hybrid cars with some remarkable results.
Originally  developed by Charles Gahagen, the engine has only two moving parts. The inventor boasted an amazing 50% thermal efficiency (this has been improved upon recently).  Diesel has an efficiency of only 40% and the four cycle gasoline engine is the least efficient with a thermal efficiency of only 30%.
The  secret of it's amazingly high efficiency lies in it's design. Each stroke  produces power, a four stroke engine of similar displacement only produces  a fourth of the power and is terribly complicated and heavy compared to free  piston engines.
You  get a digital version of Gahagen's article Little Giant and  his Free  Piston Jet Engine Patent. You also get plans for an engine running on butane  or acetylene and is built of aircraft alloy. This section includes blueprints  drawn by  John Starner and 5 pages of instructions on building the Loudmouth  written by Jack Horton. You also get the digitized version  of Jack Horton's Mechanic's Illustrated article, filled with pictures and diagrams detailing the engine's internal parts and operation... Also included in the CD is a series of files exposing the Dynacam Engines, you decide if they are a truly free piston engines.
Other  possible uses for the engine include: vibrating concrete forms, hammer, chisel, saw or any other use where vibrating action is needed.

There  will never be anything to surpass the raw power that the Turbonique turbines   provided .
A  typical gas turbine is only 50% efficient. Power from the turbine is diverted  to the compressor to drive in more air and keep the fuel air mix burning.  Turbonique engineers side stepped this by using a monopropellent and doing  away with the compressor, 100% power is transmitted to the driveshaft.
CD  containing Turbonique Technical Manual (Adobe Acrobat file) 4  patents and a video (mpeg , WAV and flash format) of Turbonique's products  at work.   There is a wealth of information on their thrust engines like those used  on the Formula-J go-karts, their Superchargers such as the C2, and also their  FAMOUS DRAG AXLE setup, etc. The main technical manual contains over 100 pages of GREAT technical information including blueprint type pictures for various parts of their micro-turbine engines and updates.
All  Turbonique turbines were powered by 'Thermolene', a copyrighted trade name  for the compound known chemically as N-propyl-nitrate. As a monopropellant,  it's decomposition had to be initiated in an O2 environment, with spark. Once the reaction was initiated, the spark and O2 (NOT LOX) was turned off.
The  powerful decomposition of N-propyl-nitrate would continue until the fuel  supply was turned off. There are several updates on the use manufacture and  substitution of Thermolene including MSDS sheets.
Also  included are 4 patents taken by Turboniques founder Gene Middlebrooks, prior  to forming Turbonique.
Finally  the CD comes with a 6 minute promotional video. This video was created from  an original 8mm film. Due to it's age some of the color and clarity has been  lost. There's no soundtrack with this video. The original film was sold with  a seperate sountrack in the form of a vinyl record. The latter I've not been  able to find.
The  film contains some impressive footage of a Turbonique powered gokart beatin  a top fuel drag racer (see last frame below), all kinds of souped up vehicles,  a jet powered boat (second frame), and a VTOL aircraft not shown in sequence  below.
