Joe DiMaggio
(1914 – 1999) was born in California after his parents emigrated from
Isola delle Femmine
, a northwestern
Sicilian
village in the province of
Palermo
. The people in Isola delle Femmine were very proud of Joe DiMaggio and his association with the island. When Joe died in March 1999, the people wanted to honor his memory. They picked the date of June 26, 1999 as a day to remember Joe DiMaggio. They created a baseball-themed poster with a 1998 Italian Baseball stamp. They arranged for the local post office to do a special cancellation in Joe’s honor. They added the American and Italian flags in the bottom corners.
Condition:
Poster is in very good condition. The poster is complete with no tears or writing. There is some very minor edge wear which is easily mitigated with appropriate matting and/or framing. The back is plain.
